We gave Trevoh Chalobah our man of the match award in our Match Report from Chelsea’s win over Fulham at Stamford Bridge yesterday, but it was a toss up with Moises Caicedo.

The midfielder is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the league, and he reminded us all of why today with an all action performance that saw him keeping the team together when Chelsea were bad, then playing a key role in the second half improvement as Enzo Maresca’s men gradually took control of the game.
It was made especially impressive by the fact that Enzo Fernandez had a disaster first half. Caicedo had to compensate for his midfield partner’s shocking display, and did so with aplomb.
His highlights from the game show him covering every blade of grass and making crucial tackles to break up Fulham’s attack. One big block saved what looked a certain goal.
Even picking up a first half yellow card, which made things much harder for him, didn’t slow him down. Even playing on a tightrope he was excellent. He made 4 tackles, 5 interceptions and a vital clearance as the Blues held out against some period of Fulham pressure.
You can see the midfielder’s highlights in the clip embedded here:
There was one moment of panic though, when Caicedo went down looking in serious pain in the final moments of the game.
It seems like the Ecuador star does this once every game, just to remind us all how much trouble Chelsea would be in were he to get injured. Let’s pray that never happens – we can’t imagine what this team would do without him.
