Venezuela will play host to Paraguay, in a match where the local squad has to start earning some points in order to have any semblance of hope to reach the World Cup. Venezuela started off their World Cup qualifying campaign poorly, losing away 3-0 against a powerful Colombian side.
Paraguay also had a disappointing, if less miserable, start, drawing 2-2 against Peru in a match held in Asuncion. Paraguay and Peru both scored in the last ten minutes of the match, thus dividing the points in play.
Typically the home team would be the favorite, but Venezuela is the perennial South American minnow. We expect a close encounter where the final result is most likely a 1-1 draw that really doesn’t help either team, both of whom are expected to struggle in the road towards the World Cup.
