The United States women’s national team returns to action for the first time since their World Cup round of 16 exit, hosting Colombia in two October friendlies.

The two sides will first face off on October 26 at America First Field in Sandy, Utah before heading to Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, California on October 29.

The USWNT holds a 9W-1D-0L record against Colombia, but a victory will not come easy this time around. The South American team is fresh off a successful Women’s World Cup run, winning Group H while eliminating powerhouse Germany and then defeating Jamaica in the first knockout round.

The United States team, on the other hand, failed to establish themselves at the World Cup with a 1W-2D-1L record, inspiring head coach Vlatko Andonovski to hand in his resignation. The USWNT now heads into the friendlies with interim manager Twila Kilgore at the helm while the US Soccer Federation searches for a permanent replacement.

"It's imperative that we continue to evolve and innovate, and we are excited about the path that lies ahead," said sporting director Matt Crocker at the time of Andonvoski's announcement.

"We understand the challenges and have engaged with stakeholders from various corners of our sport – players, coaches, and other individuals within the soccer landscape.

"The insights and perspectives gathered during these discussions have been instrumental in shaping our forward-looking plan. Our commitment to excellence remains unshakeable, and we believe this strategic plan will set the foundation for our Women's National Team to achieve greater heights in the years to come."

England have already confirmed their intention to reject any potential approaches for Sarina Wiegman, while Chelsea coach Emma Hayes has also distanced herself from the job.

Both October games will serve the United States and Colombia as preparation for the upcoming 2024 Olympic women’s soccer tournament, after both nations qualified earlier this year.
