In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke offered an update on Newcastle United and their pursuit of Arsenal keeper Aaron Ramsdale. It is understood that the English keeper is set to leave the Gunners in the summer amid interest from the Magpies.

Ramsdale’s Recent Form In English Football

Ramsdale has played as Arsenal’s second-choice keeper for most of this campaign but has managed to put in a few impressive displays for them in domestic football. The English talent has played in 11 matches for the North London giants this season, conceding 12 goals and keeping three clean sheets in multiple competitions.

The 25-year-old deserves some credit for averaging 0.5 clearances and 3.8 long balls per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after making just 65.2% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2026, so Newcastle would do well to land him on the cheap later this year.

What Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Do With Regards To Ramsdale?

Ramsdale can be a decent shot-stopper at the back as he has got quick reflexes that help him make some solid saves when needed. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when being closed down by the opposition and is a solid handler of the ball as well.

However, the English goalie has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to become a regular starter in top-flight football. Still, there is no denying that Ramsdale is more than capable of competing with Nick Pope for a regular starting spot at Newcastle United next season.

Therefore, it makes sense for Eddie Howe to try and bring the English keeper to St. James’ Park when the transfer window commences at the end of this campaign. At 25, Ramsdale has got his peak years ahead of him which makes him a decent choice for the Magpies to consider in the summer. He already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to adjust to life at the Tyneside club if Howe can find a way to get him on board in the upcoming transfer period.
