UEFA ‘Cannot Legally Sanction’ Inter & Others For Super League Plans, Spanish Media Assure | OneFootball

Inter appear to be safe from any legal action by UEFA over their involvement in the European Super League, according to a report in Spain today.

The Nerazzurri were one of 12 leading clubs to announce they would join the franchise last weekend, only to withdraw along with eight others on Wednesday following widespread condemnation.

UEFA are reportedly considering sanctions for the rebel clubs after their attempted breakaway, but Marca’s print edition said there was no risk of legal action.

Having consulted with several sports lawyers, they revealed the clubs had not violated any rules regarding the Champions League and were not forbidden from creating a parallel tournament.

UEFA announced reforms to the Champions League on Monday which will be introduced from the 2024-25 season, but this is said to make no difference to the clubs’ legal standing regarding the Super League.

This applies to clubs still in this year’s tournament, such as Real Madrid, as well as all the rest.

A report in Italy today said Inter president Steven Zhang would have to review the club’s financial plans after the Super League project collapsed.
