Mehdi Taremi of Porto has been crowned the winner of UEFA’s Goal of the Season award for 2020/21.

His sensational bicycle kick came against Chelsea in the quarter-final of last season’s competition and although Porto won on the night, the goal ultimately proved to be one of the greatest consolations of all time.

Only goals scored in UEFA’s club or international competitions between October 2020 and July 2021 were eligible to entered for the UEFA.com vote.

Taremi’s strike beats Lorenzo Insigne’s curler for Italy against Belgium at Euro 2020 in second place, while Kemar Roofe’s long-range strike for Rangers in last year’s Europa League came in third.

He claimed almost 30% of the more than 600,000 votes which were cast.
