The Qatar 2022 World Cup finals is now less than 12 months away from kicking off.
Set to be played in November and December 2022, with the Premier League (and Championship…) pausing mid-season.
The last places to be decided from European qualifying will be confirmed when play-offs take place in March 2022.
Three places are up for grabs, with 12 countries competing for them.
Two Newcastle United players keeping a close eye on Friday’s (26 November 2021) draw for the semi-finals and finals of these play-offs…
Scotland v Ukraine
Wales v Austria
Russia v Poland
Sweden v Czech Republic
Portugal v Turkey
Italy v North Macedonia
Final draw
Wales or Austria v Scotland or Ukraine
Russia v Poland v Sweden or Czech Republic
Portugal or Turkey v Italy or North Macedonia
Semi-finals due to be played 24 March, the final(s) on the 29 March.
So, NUFC’s Emil Krafth and Sweden need to get past Czech Republic and then the winner of Russia v Poland..
Whilst, if selected…Ryan Fraser and Scotland need to beat Ukraine and then Wales or Austria.
Obviously an interesting other final in prospect, with likely Portugal v Italy in the other play-off final.
