Carlo Ancelotti, widely regarded as one of the most successful coaches in Champions League history, continued his streak with Real Madrid by guiding them to the semi-finals once again.

During his stints coaching the team, he has consistently steered them to this stage, clinching the title twice on the previous four occasions.

It must be noted that Real Madrid, under Ancelotti’s leadership, have now reached the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time, a testament to their enduring prowess in European football.

This season, they avenged their previous elimination by Manchester City, who had ousted them in the previous edition.

Remarkably, this marks Real Madrid’s 12th appearance in the semi-finals out of the last thirteen editions—an unparalleled feat in the competition’s history.

Their consistency is further underscored by their uninterrupted progression past the quarter-finals for the 12th consecutive time. Their last elimination at this stage dates back to 2004 when they were defeated by Monaco.

On Wednesday, Ancelotti became the first manager to knock Guardiola out of the Champions League in three different campaigns. This includes wins in 2014 against Bayern Munich, 2002 vs Manchester City and the recent triumph.

Interestingly, all those eliminations came in the semi-final round and Ancelotti went on to win the 2014 and 2022 Champions League.

Meanwhile, yesterday’s win also meant that Real Madrid broke Manchester City’s 27-game no-loss streak.

For what it is worth, the road was not easy for Real Madrid to be where they are right now. City were always going to be dominant and they were, so much so that they attempted as many shots in the second leg as Real Madrid had possession (33).

Nevertheless, Madrid managed to defy the odds and are now one step closer to winning this season’s UEFA Champions League.
