Making the trip to Germany, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops locked horns with Bayern Munich, in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final tie between the clubs.

When all was said and done, an entertaining affair culminated in the spoils being shared, owing to a 2-2 draw.

And yet, despite Real Madrid now boasting something of an advantage ahead of next week’s return leg in Spain’s capital, many have nevertheless been critical of the approach put forth by the La Liga champions-in-waiting.

Throughout lengthy stretches at the Allianz Arena, Los Blancos were dominated when it comes to possession, and chances created alike.

As much, of course, also proved the case in the competition’s quarter-finals, and even in the Last-16 against heavy underdogs RB Leipzig.

One individual, however, adamant that all that matters when it comes to Real is the end result, comes in the form of Thierry Henry.

Speaking as part of his punditry role for CBS Sports, former Arsenal and Barcelona standout Henry, not for the first time this season, leapt to the defence of Ancelotti’s side, in explaining:

“It doesn’t matter who had more chances, possession or who ran more, with Madrid it’s about taking your chances. Because they will. You take the Leipzig game, and think how they didn’t score three? City game, you say they had no ball, how did they score four, though? When it comes to Madrid, there’s a lot of ifs. It doesn’t matter. You think you have them, you don’t. That’s why they have 14 Champions Leagues.”
