Tottenham to take advantage of Leeds’ relegation with ‘cut-price deal’ for defender | OneFootball

Tottenham have added Leeds United defender Robin Koch to their summer shortlist, according to reports, after the Yorkshire club were relegated from the Premier League on Sunday.

Leeds’ ultra-slim hopes of avoiding the drop on the final day appeared dashed in the only the second minute against Tottenham when Harry Kane fired the visitors into an early lead.

Leeds wasted several first-half chances and were duly punished – as they have been all season – when Pedro Porro put Tottenham 2-0 up with a brilliant angled finish two minutes into the second half.

Jack Harrison reduced the deficit, only for Kane to curl home his 30th league goal of the season two minutes later.

Tottenham substitute Lucas Moura then compounded Leeds’ misery when he waltzed through to add a fourth in stoppage time.

And now Spurs are looking to take advantage of Leeds’ relegation by making Koch a summer transfer target.

Football Insider claims Tottenham ‘are setting sights on a cut-price deal for Robin Koch following Leeds United’s relegation’.

The report puts his valuation as low as £15m with only one year left on the German’s contract at the end of June.

Koch’s contract situation ‘makes a summer move even more likely for the player’ while Tottenham have also ‘shown interest in goalkeeper Illan Meslier and winger Jack Harrison’.

Koch has played 36 of Leeds’ 38 Premier League matches this campaign and the low valuation is ‘at a comfortable level’ that fits into Tottenham’s transfer budget.

Spurs have had a terrible season with Tottenham eventually finishing eighth despite beating Leeds 4-1 on the final day.

Daniel Levy has taken much of the blame for their terrible season but caretaker boss Ryan Mason insists the Tottenham chairman has been “let down by other people”.

Mason said: “It hurts him, it hurts everyone committed to this club and everyone who really cares and wants this club to be successful.

“One thing I will say is he’s spent money, he’s tried and I just think ultimately he has probably been let down by other people but that’s football.

“That happens and hopefully we can get things right quickly, make good decisions and it can turn around.”

Mason added: “I think the biggest positive will be the future.

“And if we’re clever and if we do it right, then I think we’ll look back on this season and say it was tough, disappointing but ultimately it made us realise what we want to be.

“It made us realise who we are, what our history and DNA probably suggest we are, what our fans want, what our fans demand and hopefully there is a connection very soon where we look back and say disappointing season, absolutely yes, but it helped us.”
