Barcelona’s interest in signing Monaco right-back Vanderson has taken a hit, as Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of the Brazilian defender.

According to a fresh report from SPORT, the Premier League club is keen to take advantage of Barcelona’s lack of movement in the transfer market.

In recent weeks, there has been a lot of talk about who will fill the right-back role at Barcelona. Earlier, it seemed the club was happy with their current options, namely, Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia and Hector Fort, but things appear to have changed.

New reports suggest Barça have reopened talks to try and bring Vanderson to Camp Nou, a player who is said to be highly appreciated by Deco.

However, one major issue continues to block any progress, which is La Liga’s financial fair play rules.

Barcelona are still struggling to fit new signings into their wage bill, which limits their ability to compete with Premier League clubs when it comes to fees and wages.

While Barcelona weigh their options, Tottenham seem ready to move quickly.

After a season that ended with an unexpected Europa League triumph and a Champions League return, Spurs are looking to reinforce their squad, and Vanderson fits their plans perfectly.

The Brazilian is admired in England for his energy, athleticism and ability to play up and down the right flank.

Monaco, aware of the growing interest, have put a €35 million price tag on the 23-year-old. In fact, their sporting director, Thiago Scuro, is confident Tottenham will pay the full amount, something Barcelona are clearly not in a position to do at the moment.

If the current pace continues, it looks like Vanderson could be heading to London rather than Barcelona this summer.
