Too many details missing from Liverpool’s performance at Manchester City says Beard | OneFootball

Liverpool manager Matt Beard said that too many details were missing from his side’s performance against Manchester City at The Joie Stadium this afternoon.

The Reds were a shade of their usual selves as they were crushed 5-1 by Gareth Taylor’s Manchester City side. Taylor Hinds’ early goal had given Liverpool a shock lead but an own goal and a couple of poor individual errors allowed Manchester City to get a firm grip on the game.

When speaking to the media after the match, Liverpool boss Beard said that too many key details were missing from his side’s performance.

“It was frustrating,” Beard said. “We started the game slowly, even though we got in front, you can’t make the mistakes that we made today against teams like Manchester City. We did exactly the same against Chelsea. That’s super-frustrating and it comes down to common sense at the end of the day.

“We all want to try and play good football. We’ve got a centre-forward that probably wins every header and we are playing to players under pressure.

“There were too many details missing today; the type of pass, playing to the wrong foot, back-foot or behind them, too many touches, too slow, that’s not us. It’s an eye-opener in terms of the gap between us and the top three. We’ve bridged the gap on Manchester United and the other teams but this is probably a harsh reminder of how big that gap is.”

Beard went on to say that his side will learn from this afternoon’s tough lessons just as they have done previously.

He said “We do have a young team and we will learn from this. One thing that I will credit my team for is when we have had a setback, we’ve regrouped and we have kicked on.

“We were in good form coming into today but we did warn the players. We weren’t at our best last week against Bristol City but we nicked a win and we did say that if we performed like we did last week, then this is the end result. Unfortunately for us, that’s happened.”

Liverpool are back in action next Sunday when they face Arsenal at Prenton Park.
