The Austrian thinks there is not enough time to replace his captain should he be sold

Oliver Glasner is adamant that Crystal Palace must not sell Marc Guehi.

The Eagles captain, integral to Palace’s FA Cup triumph last season, has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool throughout the summer, and the Reds are reportedly preparing to make a bid ahead of Deadline Day on Monday.

He said: “From my side, it is now Friday and the window closes on Monday, he has to (stay). He has to.

“I think it is not possible at the moment to find a Marc Guehi replacement who can play in the Premier League, being a starter for Crystal Palace, being consistent.

“Getting the right replacement in now, I think, is almost impossible.

“He shows in every game that he is focused, and again I think if Marc had said ‘I want to leave Crystal Palace’ then it would have happened weeks ago.”

He continued, explaining how Guehi was central to Palace’s recent success and Glasner’s plans for the 2025-26 campaign.

“You will see our foundation, the foundation of success we had for the last couple of months, the foundation of going into the (Conference League) group stage, is our defence, and Marc is a crucial part.

“He is our captain, he is an England international, he has the most Premier League experience of the whole back.”

Glasner has made no secret of his discontent with Palace’s summer business. Despite entering a first-ever European campaign this season, the Eagles have made just two permanent additions so far, in the form of left-back Borna Sosa and backup goalkeeper Walter Benitez.

They are also yet to replace star forward Eberechi Eze, who departed to join Arsenal last week.
