Marc Guehi wants to join Liverpool before the transfer deadline despite rival interest in the Crystal Palace centre-back.

Guehi has entered the final season of his contract at Palace and the Eagles have reluctantly accepted a sale is likely. Palace do not want to lose Guehi on a free transfer in 2026, but are yet to agree terms with interested clubs.

Liverpool have made an initial approach for Guehi and the 24-year-old is keen on the move. The Reds want to bring in another experienced option at centre-back, following the sale of Jarell Quansah earlier this summer. Joe Gomez’s injury record and Ibrahima Konate’s uncertain future have heightened the need for reinforcements.

Manchester City are understood to be considering a late approach, while Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have both had bids rejected in previous windows. Chelsea are also considering signing a centre-back in the coming days. However, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Liverpool remain Guehi’s preferred destination.

Talks are expected to continue before Monday’s deadline, over a deal that could be worth around £35m. Should a transfer not be agreed, Liverpool will return to sign Guehi as a free agent in 2026.
