Derby County emerged as 3-2 winners at Pride Park, with The Rams inflicting Bournemouth’s first away defeat of the season.
A Jason Knight goal and a brace from Tom Lawrence earned The Rams all three points on home soil, with Dominic Solanke and Jaidon Anthony netting for the visitors.
Wayne Rooney’s side displayed excellent levels of hunger and desire in what has been a difficult week for his side.
After suffering a 12-point deduction nearer the start of the campaign, Derby were hit with a further nine-point deduction during last week.
Yesterday’s win take The Rams back to 0 points and 15 points away from Hull City in 21st.
Derby have reacted well to the setbacks they have been dealt this year and it remains to be seen if they can complete an epic escape.
Sharing his delight of yesterday’s win on Twitter, Tom Lawrence said: “Not a bad way to end the week rams.”
The verdict
Lawrence could be vital to Derby’s survival attempt, but there is growing interest in the midfielder.
He tends to be involved in the majority of attacking moves that The Rams put together and he has the technical ability and vision to hurt any defence in the Championship.
If he was to depart he would leave a glaring void, but he is not irreplaceable.
Derby have some strong options in midfield, and that is helped by the thriving academy that they also have at their disposal.
Derby’s levels of fight and spirit will encourage fans, as whilst it is a steep task, survival is well within the realms of possibility.
