Blackburn Rovers will be keen to move forward as a club following their decision to hand over the reins to Jon Dahl Tomasson earlier this month.

Keen to stamp his own authority on Rovers’ squad, Tomasson may be able to bolster his side’s chances of achieving a relative amount of success in the Championship later this year if he nails his transfer recruitment.

One of the players who has recently been linked with a move to Ewood Park is Todd Cantwell.

According to The Sun, Blackburn are interested in signing Cantwell on loan from Norwich City.

Here, we have decided to take a look at whether this could be a good potential move, assess whether Cantwell would start for Blackburn and share an insight into what he offers as a player….

Is it a good potential move?

This could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Blackburn if they are able to convince Norwich to sanction a temporary switch this summer.

Cantwell has demonstrated during his career that he is more than capable of delivering the goods in the Championship.

As well as scoring seven goals at this level, the midfielder has also provided nine assists in 68 appearances.

If he is able to hit the ground running for Blackburn, Cantwell could potentially go on to establish himself as a key player for the club.

Capable of playing in a number of different positions, Cantwell’s versatility could prove to be extremely useful for Blackburn.

Whereas the 24-year-old will face competition for a place in Rovers’ side from the likes of Bradley Dack, Ryan Hedges and Dilan Markanday, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he goes on to claim a regular spot in the club’s starting eleven.

Cantwell’s arrival could force these aforementioned players to step up their performance levels which in turn may lead to Blackburn picking up positive results on a regular basis in the second-tier.

What does he offer?

Cantwell has demonstrated that he is very assured whilst in possession of the ball.

Before being loaned out to AFC Bournemouth earlier this year, the midfielder registered a pass success rate of 84.1% in the top-flight (as per WhoScored).

During his time with the Cherries, Cantwell provided 1.5 key passes per game whilst he also showed a willingness to take on his opponents as he completed 1.3 dribbles per fixture.

If Cantwell is able to maintain his consistency over the course of the 2022/23 campaign, he could help Blackburn challenge for a top-six finish as he unquestionably possesses a great deal of talent.
