FLW take a look at who could be the next signings to arrive at Pride Park

Derby County have started to show promising signs of ambition in the transfer window, but John Eustace's dream July would see a somewhat complete remake of his squad as the Rams target players capable of building on last seasons great escape.

CEO Stephen Pearce indicated that the first players to join the Rams would be "squad players" - it sounded patronising at first, but he was trying to be clear as to how they'd fit with the team.

Unexpectedly, and not a squad player - Carlton Morris has joined from Luton Town to provide the goalscoring threat that was desperately lacking last season, while Danny Batth brings strong experience at centre-back - and is one of those reuniting with manager John Eustace.

The second linking back up with Eustace is Andreas Weimann, whose return to Pride Park starts to add some depth to the attacking options. The Austrian international, who previously played for Derby between 2015 and 2018, has signed a one-year deal - the same with Batth.

Meanwhile, Richard O'Donnell's arrival provides stronger third-choice cover in goal than Rohan Luthra, and Liam Thompson's new two-year contract secures last years Young Player of the Season - FLW take a look at who could be next.

All three of Kane Wilson, Ryan Nyambe, and Joe Ward have injury concerns, with Nyambe having suffered a serious quad injury that required surgery - so you'd expect replacements or extra depth.

According to Football Insider, Derby have seen a loan offer for right-back Cody Drameh rejected by Hull City. The former Leeds United defender worked under Eustace at Birmingham City, but the Tigers reportedly only want to get rid of him permanently.

Another right-back Derby are plotting a move for is Blackburn's Callum Brittain, who is in the last year of his contract at the Lancashire club. Football Insider report that he could be on his way to Pride Park after extension talks are yet to come to fruition at Rovers.

Owen Beck from Liverpool represents an exciting option on the other flank. The Welsh left-back impressed under Eustace at Blackburn Rovers, making 25 appearances and scoring once - Pete O'Rourke says the Rams are interested.

Derby County should expect midfielders who are comfortable in Eustace's 4-2-3-1 system

Another from Blackburn, FLW exclusively revealed in June that he's another Eustace wants to reunite with. The 27-year-old captain made 38 appearances last season and would provide the defensive midfield stability that Derby do need.

It's worth noting that Eustace's first game as Rams head coach was a 4-0 away defat to QPR in which he tried to play his preferred 4-2-3-1 - a formation he wants to go back to.

Trying it again the following game in another defeat (to Millwall), Eustace hasn't touched it since - and Ebou Adams didn't look comfortable playing there at all. It can be argued that the other three midfielders in Kenzo Goudmijn, Ben Osborn, and Thompson aren't suited to play there either.

Weimann's return partially addresses the number ten role, with the Austrian preferring to play in that position rather on the wing. John Swift is another attacking midfielder Derby have apparently held talks with, but he doesn't bring the average age of the squad down.

Derby County could see marquee signings arrive in July

When Pearce made his comments about squad players, he mentioned "marquee signings" come later in the window - Derby could see some of those happen this month.

The headline pursuit remains Patrick Agyemang from Charlotte FC who has divided opinion. Derby have reportedly bidding $7m for the American forward - who has faced notable online criticism from fans of the USMNT, as he's currently playing in the Gold Cup.

Corey Blackett-Taylor and Kayden Jackson (discounting Weimann) are the only two wingers in the first team - CBT's injury record remains a concern and the latter has got to be seen as a reserve option following his performances last season.

So, there is no doubt that Tyrhys Dolan would be a dream signing from... you guessed it - Blackburn Rovers. The 23-year-old scored seven goals and provided six assists last season under Eustace. However, there's been no concrete evidence to suggest a move is in the works.

Finally, in another FLW exclusive, 23-year-old Brazilian defender David Sousa has attracted interest from Derby, with Swansea City already having a bid rejected. If the East Midlands outfit were able to sign all of the names mentioned in this article, then it would definitely be a dream month.
