Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has hinted that he will stay at the club despite having a release clause for the upcoming summer.
The Belgian has just one year remaining on his Spurs contract and could leave the club for just £25m (€28m) if a bid comes in.
However, he told the Evening Standard that he isn’t thinking about leaving north London.
“I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve been saying for the past couple of years,” Alderweireld insisted.
“The only focus is Spurs, because of this focus I think I had a good season as well.
“I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season.”
Alderweireld started the campaign out of favour after he was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United last year.
Despite that, he won his place back in the side and has been a crucial part of the team’s run to the Champions League final.
The 30-year-old could now stay at the club for at least one more year, though there is not yet any suggestion that he is close to extending his deal.
