Timo Werner grateful for Spurs teammates after scoring first goal | OneFootball

Timo Werner finally opened his account for Tottenham Hotspur to help the side come from behind to beat Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The German attacker, who joined Spurs on loan from RB Leipzig in January, has performed well for the club, but hadn’t scored in his previous five Premier League appearances.

Werner‘s inability to find the net reared its head again when the 27-year-old squandered a golden chance to put Spurs ahead in the first half.

The former Chelsea forward did manage to get on the scoresheet with an equaliser in the 77th minute, giving his side the platform to go on and win the game as Cristian Romero and Son Heung-min also scored to complete the comeback.

“Absolutely, especially after the first half when I missed the big chance,” Werner said on the importance of his first goal.

“It was important for me and the team that I scored this goal and we came back into the game.

“They stood behind me at half-time and said I should keep going. That is what I tried. It always feels good that you have a group that says nothing about it.

“They were supportive. It helps me and the whole team.”

Spurs remain five points outside the top four, but they do have a game in hand on Aston Villa.
