Manchester United are through to the FA Cup final after beating Coventry City on penalties. However, their defensive performance left a bitter taste in many fans’ mouths.

Erik ten Hag’s position at Man United is under scrutiny. Should he stay beyond this season, it would not surprise many if elite players prefer not to join the club due to his disjointed style of football that consistently exposes the vulnerabilities of his stars.

On the other hand, United’s managerial hot-seat is becoming more and more attractive with each passing day, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe continues to appoint high-profile names in the industry to strengthen INEOS’ Old Trafford project.

This may help the Red Devils attract top managers should they decide to cut ties with Ten Hag. It certainly could prove to be the case with Thomas Tuchel.

The German tactician, who is all set to depart Bayern Munich at the end of the season, is being eyed by Barcelona.

The La Liga powerhouses are looking for Xavi’s replacement. According to ESPN, they have made Tuchel a candidate for a soon-to-be-vacated position.

However, the former Chelsea man would supposedly prefer to join a club in England. It is added that he would be “open to speaking” to United should they signal their interest.

In the market where there is a real dearth of elite managers, many factors could play a part in dictating Tuchel’s decision.

Apart from offering the ex-Dortmund man Premier League football, United are also in a much better position, both financially and structurally, than Barcelona.

Many high-profile figures, including former United midfielder Jordi Cruyff, have jumped off Joan Laporta’s ship in recent months. The Catalan outfit continues to struggle on the pitch as well as battle precarious financial situation off it.

United, meanwhile, are roping in experienced football operators under INEOS’ leadership at an impressive pace.

INEOS, who already boasts the expertise of Jean Claude Blanc and Dave Brailsford, are working on adding Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth to the mix.

The intention is to unite Ashworth with former Manchester City figures Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox as part of United’s rebuild.
