Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that he doesn’t feel relieved to win the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and that the club should enjoy what is a special moment.

The Red Devils have endured a slightly disappointing league campaign which could end in a fifth-place finish. However, Manchester United will conclude the campaign with silverware after they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley this afternoon.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Manchester United head coach Skinner said that winning the Adobe Women’s FA Cup was not a relief. He admitted that the league campaign has been disappointing but he wants the club’s first major trophy success to be celebrated.

“It’s not relief, never, we don’t live in that moment,” Skinner said. “If we believe that we should be winning everything, every second then we are not in the right space right now, that’s what we aspire to be. To add this gives the experience to the players to build on.

“We are not happy with where we are finishing or will finish in the league but to be history-makers for this fantastic club, for our fans means more than relief, it’s actually a really exciting moment.”

Manchester United were never in any danger of losing the showdown at Wembley. The Red Devils implemented their game plan perfectly and they were the deserved winners. Skinner said that his side went into the game with the mindset of getting their business done.

He said “Before the game, I felt that we were in a really good space, I thought they were ready. I felt like they didn’t over-hype it, they felt like it was business.

“I want to give Tottenham a lot of credit for the run that they’ve had and the season that they’ve had. If they use it like we used it last year, it’ll only serve them for future successes I’m sure. Congratulations to them.

“For us, we fast-forward too many times beyond the moment to the next thing then the next thing. Actually, it feels really nice to be present. For me, I feel like I’m present in this moment and it’s a moment to enjoy.”

Skinner is out of contract at Manchester United in the summer but he remains hopeful of leading the club into their next chapter.

He said “I hope so but we’ve created history and I’m going to live in that moment to be honest. I believe in myself fully and I am still a baby in terms of my career, so I have lots and lots to achieve in this game.

“From my perspective, I feel that the club are in fantastic hands and hopefully, I’m here to push forward with them.”

Manchester United complete the 2023/2024 season with a Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
