Chelsea captain Magda Eriksson is expecting a real test from an ‘incredibly strong’ Manchester City team when the two clubs meet at Wembley in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final this afternoon.

The Blues go into the match on the back of 11 straight wins while Manchester City’s form is even better with Gareth Taylor’s side boasting a 13-match winning streak.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Chelsea defender Eriksson said that her side hold lots of respect for Manchester City and that they recognise the power of Taylor’s side.

“They’re back now, they’re back to their old selves,” Eriksson said. “They’ve had an excellent record lately, they look incredibly strong and they were strong against us in the Conti Cup final. We want to make up for that game, we can play better.

“We have massive respect for Manchester City, they are a tough team to play against and I think that it is going to be a great final.”

The Football Association have announced that more than 55,000 tickets have been sold for the final meaning that the competition’s record crowd of 45,423 could be broken. Eriksson said that it is great to see the demand for tickets.

She said “It’s amazing. It is where we want to be and that’s the standard that we want to get to having these big games. It is great that when we are getting opportunities to play in these big games in big stadiums we tend to fill it or we get big crowds.

“It’s quite cool that we are proving that the interest is consistently there now that fans are allowed back in stadiums.”

The 2021/2022 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City kicks-off at 2.30pm.
