Fans of Spanish football have flocked to social media on Sunday evening, to reveal their despair with the nature of Real Madrid’s victory over Almería.

Los Blancos, of course, were back in action a short time ago.

Fresh off being dumped out of the Copa del Rey by city rivals Atlético in midweek, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops turned their attentions back towards matters in La Liga, in a home meeting with Almería.

With the visitors sitting bottom of the table, all associated with Real no doubt predicted a comfortable evening’s work, ultimately culminating in a dominant three points.

What unfolded over the ensuing 90 minutes in Spain’s capital, however, proved rather different.

In fact, heading in at the interval, it was Almería who found themselves in possession of a shock 2-0 advantage.

But, as so often proves the case with Real Madrid, when it mattered most, they found a way to get the job done.

After Jude Bellingham pulled one back from the penalty spot early in the 2nd half, Vinícius Jr. dragged the hosts on level terms a short time later.

And this set the stage for the most dramatic of winners, Dani Carvajal popping up at the back post to slot home from close range with a full 99 minutes on the clock.

As the celebrations got underway in Madrid, however, accompanying anger spread across the fanbases of rival clubs.

Real’s victory came after not one, but two controversial VAR decisions went in their favour over the course of the 2nd-half, with the capital giants having also been afforded a hefty 11 minutes of injury-time to find a decisive winner.

Consequently, the dismay across social media has been as venomous as it has swift, with just some of the highlights showcased below:
