Barnsley and Blackburn Rovers played a goalless draw at Oakwell in the eighth round of the EFL Championship. This was Barnsley’s fifth draw this season and the visitors have also drawn half of their matches.

Markus Schopp made two changes to the starting line-up from their previous match. Gomes came in for Palmer, and Oduor replaced Frieser upfront.
The average position of the starting line-up is more towards the left side of the play. Leya and Oduor played on the left side with, Sibbick operating on the right.
Ian Poveda, the player on loan from Leeds United, started in place of Clarkson. This was the only change made by the manager.
The average position of the starting 11 shows that Dolan and Brereton played as two strikers and were supported by Buckley and Poveda on the wider sides.
Barnsley had more possession of the ball and created more attacks than the visitors. The passing accuracy was low for both the teams and especially Blackburn, who had less than 70% of the possession.
The xG rate of both teams was less than one. Barnsley players took more shots on goal than their opponents and had four shots on target. Blackburn striker Brereton had the highest xG amongst individuals in the match.
Barnsley players attempted seven shots from inside the box and three of them were saved by the keeper. 30% of the shots were headers towards the goal.
Blackburn players only attempted three shots and one of the shots was on target.
The expected goal timeline shows that Blackburn players had no attempts for around 60 minutes in the match. The home team on the other hand created six chances in the first half and added seven more to their total in the second half.
Helik attempted 68 passes in the match and shared 15 passes with Halme. The latter received 44 passes in total.
Pickering had the most number of passes for Blackburn and his eight passes were towards Buckley.
Brittain attempted five balls into the opposition 18-yard box and out of those four were crosses and one pass was a smart pass.
Blackburn players attempted more smart passes, and John Buckley alone tried four smart passes. Pickering was another player who had four pass attempts into the opposition box.
The creative zones for Barnsley were wide right and a little bit towards wide left. Callum Brittain passed with an accuracy of more than 90% and he created the highest xT from passes for his team.
Oduor created threat with his dribbles from the left. Adeboyejo came off the bench and was behind his teammate on the list.
Blackburn players were unable to create threat with their passing. The creative zones were wide and caused less trouble to the opposition.
Dolan created some threats with his dribbles on the left. He was replaced by Khadra, who also added up to the xT from the dribbles list.
The defensive duels win rate was high on the wide right position. Styles contested 11 duels and won eight out of them.
Helik and his fellow defenders won all their aerial duels in the defensive third. Helik won 80% of his duels and was supported by Halme and Moon.
The loose ball duels were mostly contested in the opposition half. Moon once again won all of his duels and Helik also had a 70% win rate.
Blackburn players won their defensive duels on the right but lose most of their duels in other parts of the field. Poveda won around 80% of his duels.
Lenihan and Nyambe were strong in the air and the duo won around 76% of the aerial duels.
The loose balls duels win rate was high. Lenihan once again was the pick of the defenders and he won six of his duels. Brereton lost 75% of his loose ball duels.
Barnsley created more chances than Blackburn but were unable to score a goal. Blackburn are ranked high in the league rankings and this performance was below par for them. Both the teams will look to improve their xG and score more goals in the upcoming matches.
