Alexander Meier: “It’s a very, very sad day for Eintracht. I remember being in his office back when he was a scout. What Bernd Hölzenbein achieved for Eintracht… winning the DFB Cup three times, winning the UEFA Cup, winning the World Cup, scoring a goal while sitting down, top scorer… he’s the best striker Eintracht have ever had. A huge part of our history has unfortunately gone.”

Kevin Trapp: “The news of Bernd Hölzenbein’s passing is very sad. I was lucky enough to get to know him personally. A true club legend leaves some big shoes to fill.”

Farès Chaibi: “I’ve heard a lot about Bernd Hölzenbein. He’s one of Eintracht’s greatest legends. His performances are an inspiration for us all. We want to win for him on Friday.”

Bernd Neuendorf, President of the German Football Association (DFB): “Bernd Hölzenbein was an outstanding footballer and a terrific person. Out on the pitch he was a streetwise player who always found solutions nobody else saw. His life revolved around football. His death leaves a huge hole at Eintracht and at the DFB. We are deeply indebted to him and will miss him very much.”

Alexander Wehrle, CEO, VfB Stuttgart: “VfB mourns the passing of Bernd Hölzenbein alongside the Hölzenbein family, Eintracht Frankfurt and the German football community. He was a brilliant striker and a unique person. He was an extraordinary footballer, a legend, and was always a welcome guest at VfB Stuttgart. We will honour his memory.”
