RB Leipzig's training camp in Donaueschingen can be considered a success, having featured intense training sessions, a great atmosphere, a 7-0 win against Toulouse, and no injuries. After seven days in idyllic surroundings, Ole Werner also gave a positive assessment: “The training conditions were excellent. I'm very satisfied.”

The next challenge awaits on Saturday, when RBL will host Atalanta at the Red Bull Arena during the club's official season-opening event. Two weeks later, the competitive season will begin in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against Sandhausen. Here are five reasons to look forward to the new season.

Team spirit

  1. The spirit within the team was high during training camp. In the midst of intense sessions in the gym and on the training pitch, the team still found time to switch off and have fun. From crossbar challenges to keepy-ups, table tennis battles or a round of golf, there was plenty to do. Johan Bakayoko summed it up best: "The spirit within the team is strong and we have a lot of fun together."

Friendlies

  1. After a 3-0 win in their first pre-season friendly against Meuselwitz, RBL recorded a 7-0 triumph against Toulouse. Head coach Ole Werner's side were a joy to watch, finishing their chances and keeping a clean sheet despite making wholesale changes for the second half.

Playing style

  1. The team displayed a strong attacking brand of football, both in training and in the friendlies. Head coach Ole Werner looks for his side to press high, counter quickly and drive towards goal, having brought in a new formation. Antonia Nusa is familiar with it from playing for Norway's senior men's national team, saying "The new formation feels very good. It's a bit of a different style, which fits very well to us."

New signings

  1. Yan Diomande found the back of the net in both pre-season friendlies to date, Johan Bakayoko has provided further cover on the wings and Ezechiel Banzuzi brings calmness and physicality to his position in the centre of the pitch. Additionally, Max Finkgräfe is a hard worker on the left, while Andrija Maksimović's talent is clear to see. Our new signings have been able to slot in seamlessly already.

Comebacks

  1. Xaver Schlager and Assan Ouédraogo were both able to make their comebacks, having missed the majority of the last season due to injury. Schlager is a key figure in centre-mid, bringing experience, physicality and energy to the pitch. Even if the Austrian isn't back to full fitness just yet, it's great to see him back out on the pitch!
