Swansea City made a winning start to the Genero Adran League in front of a record crowd for a women’s domestic game in Wales.

Cardiff Met thought they had opened the scoring in the first half, but captain Steph Turner’s goal was ruled off side. Instead it was the Swans who went ahead in the 41st minute with Katy Hosford cutting iide to fire home. Stacey John-Davis then doubled their lead early in the second half with a chip from the side of the penalty area going in off the woodwork.

The first goal of the season was scored by Libby Isaac, who put Aberystwyth in the lead after just three minutes against promoted Abergavenny. The Seasiders added a second just over 10 minutes before the end of the game, with Rebecca Mathias getting on the scoresheet. Abergavenny’s Lisa Bird replied instantly to make it 2-1, but they couldn’t find a second and Aberystwyth went home the victors.

At Cardiff International Stadium, Cardiff City FC faced Pontypridd United in their first match under manager James Fishlock, who is in charge while Fern Burrage-Male is on maternity leave. The Bluebirds were keen to put a marker down for the season and Danielle Broadhurst’s opening goal was certainly that. A second from Phoebie Poole in the second half confirmed the win.

Last season’s two newcomers faced off, with Barry Town United heading north to TNS. The hosts went ahead in the 11th minute, but five minutes before half time Emily Nicholson pulled one back. TNS could have retaken the lead when they were awarded a penalty just three minutes after the break, but this was missed and Barry’s Mackenzie Olden added two in extra time to not only win the game, but also end the day top of the Genero Adran Premier table on goal difference after Round 1.

Llandudno 8-0 Rhyl Llanfair United 0-6 Wrexham Felinheli P-P Connah’s Quay Nomads

Wrexham’s prolific scorer of last season Rosie Hughes carried on where she left off, with a hat-trick as they hit hosts Llanfair for six.

Promoted Rhyl had a difficult start having players missing for their match at Llandudno, whose Mari Gibbard and Maddie Williams both scored three times in an 8-0 result.

Briton Ferry Llansawel 5-2 Caldicot Town Pontardawe Town 4-2 Swansea University Cascade P-P Talycopa

Briton Ferry beat Caldicot 5-2 with the aid of braces by Laura-May Walkley and Mollie Jones. Catryn Cook also scored twice as Pontardawe saw off Swansea University 4-2.
