While Wissam Ben Yedder (AS Monaco) remains the absolute benchmark in terms of 'supersubs' with his status as the top scorer off the bench in the five major leagues after since last season (7 goals), there were some other names to make a big impact in Round. First up were the ones instigated by Oscar Garcia as Stade de Reims beat Nantes 3-1. With the scores locked at 1-1, the Spanish coach turned the match on its head by sending on Alexis Flips at the start of the second half and Hugo Ekitike with 20 minutes remaining.
STADE DE REIMS - FC NANTES (3-1) / Highlights (SdR - FCN) 2021/2022 While Flips (21) provided the assists for the first two Reims goals, it was his younger teammate who scored twice within eight minutes of coming on. A decisive double that saw Ekitike become the first substitute to pull off such a performance at Stade de Reims since Gaëtan Courtet 9 years ago!
PSG: Draxler, the fastest since Gameiro
Julian Draxler also made his mark, taking just 19 seconds to score the goal that clinched the 2-0 win against Montpellier at the Parc des Princes on Saturday. He thus became the fastest supersub to find the net in 2021-22, ahead of Ben Yedder and his 41 seconds against AS Saint-Etienne (3-1, R7). No Parisian substitute has been quicker to score than Draxler since Kévin Gameiro (17 seconds in December 2012).
PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN - MONTPELLIER HÉRAULT SC (2-0) / Highlights (PSG - MHSC) 2021/2022 So, after Round 8, 28 players have scored off the bench in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, including four with two goals: namely Elbasan Rashani (CF63), Jérémy Le Douaron (SB29) - in addition to Wissam Ben Yedder and Hugo Ekitike.
