Steve Bruce has insisted that there is “no real sense of urgency” when it comes to expiring contracts at Newcastle.
The surprising claim came just a few days after the coach confirmed that the club were in talks with Federico Fernandez, Javi Manquillo and Matty Longstaff over new deals.
But now Bruce has made a slight U-turn by revealing that he is relatively relaxed about a lack of activity thus far.
“There’s no uncertainty in the air,” he told the Shields Gazette.
“I think it’s normal. We’ve just come out of the January window, and we’ve now got three or four months to start talking, which already has happened.
“There’s no real sense of urgency at all. Of course, the big one is young Matty, but we’ll keep trying and plugging away.”
