Spurs set to sign goalkeeper

According to reports from many high profile and reputable journalists, such as David Ornstein of The Athletic - Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete the signing of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague on a five and half year contract.

Spurs set to sign young goalkeeper from the Czech Republic

The goalkeeper is just 21-years old, which is young for an outfield player never mind goalkeeper, and is described as "very highly rated" (mind you, feels like nearly every young signing is described as that), and "not seen as back up", with the keeper seen to challenge for the number one spot.

Back in November, we saw Guglielmo Vicario need surgery on an ankle injury picked up in the win over Manchester City, where he played on for an hour. Since then, Fraser Forster has filled in, sometimes admirably, sometimes a lot less so. Even he managed to fall victim to this current pandemic of unavailable players, with Brandon Austin making his debut in the game against Newcastle.

So, it is clear that the club needed to make a move for a goalkeeper, as well as a number of other positions. To date, Kinsky has four caps for the Czech Republic U21 side, and was called up to the senior team last autumn. His father, who shares the same name, was also a professional goalkeeper, and made five appearances for the senior team in the early 2000's.

We will have to see how quickly Spurs can get this deal done. With the semi-final first leg against Liverpool on Wednesday evening, it certainly cannot come quick enough. Quite the game to make your debut in, mind you, but serious needs must at this stage.

It will be interesting to see how Spurs play this. Whilst it was mentioned above that he is going to push for the number one spot, should Vicario continue to keep his place - will it be useful for his development to remain on the bench at such a young age? Perhaps we will see a loan to a top five league, with Tottenham bringing in a short term number two to back up Vicario.

Regardless, it is good to see the club moving relatively quickly in the window. This window needs to be a busy one if there is any chance of being able to salvage this season, particularly in the Europa League - which you feel is the best chance of a trophy this season.
