Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly enquired about the availability of Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, as revealed by talkSPORT. In what could become one of the more surprising summer transfer developments, Spurs appear to be testing the waters for the talented but injury-disrupted French international.
According to Sky Sports News, Chelsea are planning to offload Nkunku as part of a reshuffle in their attacking options, having already struck a deal to bring in Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. With Spurs now entering the frame, this story has the potential to dominate the early summer window.
An enquiry is not a bid, but it is a signal of intent. Tottenham are actively scouting creative reinforcements, and Nkunku fits the mould. Still only 26, the former RB Leipzig star has shown flashes of brilliance when fit. His stint at Chelsea, however, has been marred by recurring injuries, which have disrupted his rhythm and momentum.
“Tottenham have enquired about Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku,” talkSPORT stated. The piece goes on to highlight how “Spurs have now emerged as a shock candidate to make a move for the France international.”

This development should not be dismissed as mere transfer rumour fodder. With manager Ange Postecoglou looking to build a more dynamic and flexible frontline, Nkunku’s versatility could be invaluable. He can operate behind the striker, as a false nine, or even as a wide forward.
Chelsea’s willingness to entertain offers for Nkunku may surprise some. Signed with high expectations, the Frenchman arrived with an eye-catching record from the Bundesliga. But limited minutes and inconsistent form have led the Blues to consider a refresh.
As Sky Sports News reports, “Nkunku will likely leave Stamford Bridge this summer.” With Delap already lined up as a future option, Chelsea seem prepared to sacrifice Nkunku in favour of rebalancing their squad.
In that context, Tottenham’s approach becomes more plausible. Chelsea are not just listening to offers, they may be actively encouraging them behind the scenes.
It’s not just Tottenham circling. Bayern Munich were previously linked with Nkunku during the January window, and the German giants reportedly remain interested.
If Spurs are serious, they may need to move decisively. Bayern can offer Champions League football and a return to the Bundesliga, where Nkunku flourished. However, if the player prefers to stay in London and rebuild his form in familiar surroundings, Tottenham might offer the perfect platform.

There’s no denying the risk attached to Nkunku. His injury record since joining Chelsea is concerning. However, this is exactly the kind of calculated gamble that can pay off if the player regains fitness and confidence.
Tottenham have room to add technical quality to their forward line. With Richarlison still inconsistent and James Maddison needing creative support, Nkunku could offer a different dimension. His ability to carry the ball, unlock defences, and score from tight spaces is rare.
Of course, Spurs would need to structure any deal carefully. A loan with an option to buy or a performance-based agreement could reduce the financial risk.
“Spurs have now emerged as a shock candidate to make a move for the France international.”
This line from talkSPORT perfectly encapsulates the buzz around the move. It’s unexpected, but potentially very smart.
For Spurs fans, this rumour feels like it came out of nowhere. But the more you think about it, the more sense it makes. Nkunku is the kind of high-upside player we’ve lacked since Eriksen’s prime. He drifts between the lines, presses hard, and knows where the goal is.
Sure, his fitness record isn’t ideal, but neither was Gareth Bale’s when we brought him back on loan, and he still scored goals. Ange has a track record of getting the best out of technical players, and if he believes he can rebuild Nkunku’s confidence, it could be a masterstroke.
The fact that Chelsea are willing to let him go might be more about their squad imbalance than his quality. If Spurs can negotiate cleverly, they could snatch a player Chelsea fans never really got to see at his best.
And let’s be honest – signing a Chelsea player and watching him thrive in Lilywhite would be extra sweet. We just hope it’s not another “what if” story come next season.
