Southampton believe that deadline-day signing Samuel Edozie is a ‘perfect fit’ for the club following his move from Manchester City, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Ralph Hasenhuttl oversaw a busy few months of business at St Mary’s and the 19-year-old was one of the last players to make the move to the south-coast club.

What happened with Edozie?

Edozie made the permanent move from the Premier League champions on the final day of business in the summer window, signing a five-year contract.

A £10 million fee was paid to City for his services, making him the third player to swap the Etihad for St Mary’s this summer, following deals for goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu and midfielder Romeo Lavia.

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that his side have buyback clauses inserted into each deal, however, so the young winger could return to the North West in the future.

After the signing was announced, Hasenhuttl spoke highly of Edozie’s qualities, saying: “Samuel is another promising young player who brings good attacking qualities to us and he is someone who fits very well with our philosophy.”

As well as Edozie, Lavia and Bazunu, Southampton completed deals for seven other players over the course of the summer, including Sekou Mara, Armel Bella-Kotchap, Joe Aribo and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

What has Jones said on the deal?

Jones understands that Southampton are very happy with the acquisition of Edozie, with the early signs encouraging them.

The transfer insider says that people at the club are excited over the teenager’s potential and that he will slot seamlessly into the set-up.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “They think that he’s a profile of player that is a perfect fit for them and they can give him take off in his career. Speaking to people, it is one that they’re far more excited about than the outside world seems to be.”

How has Edozie began his Saints career?

Saturday afternoon saw Southampton slump to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers in the West Midlands.

A first-half goal from Daniel Podence was enough to secure all three points for the hosts, with Che Adams wasting a glorious chance to equalise in the second period.

Edozie started the game on the bench but was introduced in the second half after 73 minutes had been played, replacing Romain Perraud.

impressing his manager in the process.
