The Athletic understands that Chelsea are set to complete a deal worth around £8.5m to sign USMNT international Caleb Wiley (19) from Atlanta United. It is then expected that he will be sent on loan to RC Strasbourg Alsace.

An agreement in principle has been reached to sign the American left-back, who has been named in the USMNT Olympic squad that will face France in Marseille later this month. Wiley is expected to sign a seven-year deal with the Premier League side, tying him to the club until 2031.

Once the deal is formalised, it is expected that he will then join fellow BlueCo-owned club Strasbourg. Last season, Andrey Santos and Ângelo Gabriel made a similar move in order to afford them game time. RCSA have been heavily involved in the deal to sign Wiley amid their search for a left-back. Having considered a move for Englishman Archie Brown (22), it now looks like they will secure Wiley, for one season at least.
