Should Roma Look More Regularly to the Premier League for Recruitment?

Article image:Should Roma Look More Regularly to the Premier League for Recruitment?

Roma are currently sitting in fourth place in Serie A (the top tier of men’s professional football in Italy), and some of their best players have, at one time in their career, played for a Premier League club (the top tier of men’s professional football in England). The question being asked here is, should Roma look more regularly to the Premier League for recruitment?

Which ex-Premier League players currently play for Roma?

Roma currently has several ex-Premier League players in their regular starting 11 lineup and several other ex-Premier League players outside of the starting 11. For example, Chris Smalling (defender) and Nemanja Matic (midfielder) both played for Manchester United. Tammy Abraham (forward) played for Chelsea, and Georginio Wijnaldum (midfielder) played for Liverpool. Up until 2021, Edin Dzeko (striker), who once played for Manchester City, also played for Roma.

Where are Roma in the League?

At the time of writing, Roma sit 7th in the Serie A table on 27 points. Although their current position is worrying, only six points separate the Giallorossi from second placed Milan—highlighting how tight the race is for the top places in Serie A.

If Roma look more regularly to the Premier League for recruitment, can they win the league?

Roma have only ever won the league on three separate occasions, and the last time they won the title was back in the 2000/01 season, so they will be looking to do anything they can to win the league again. If that means bringing in ex-Premier League players to try and get the job done, then so be it.

Since they have recruited players from the Premier League, their fortunes have improved a little, and fans will be hoping that these players can keep on performing well to help Roma win the league. It has been over two decades now, and they are currently looking in top form, so there’s a good chance they could win the league with these ex-Premier League players. However, that could be this season or next season.

How likely is it that Roma will win Serie A for the 2022/23 campaign?

To get a clearer understanding of how likely it is that Roma may win the league this season, the best thing to do would be to look to the major sports betting sites to find out what kind of odds they are currently offering for Roma to win the league outright. For example, right now, at most sites, such as Unibet, you will see that Roma are currently only the fourth odds-on favourites to win. As well as Serie A betting odds, don’t forget that this trusted site also has rather competitive Premier League betting odds.

Roma are currently priced at 1,100 in American/Moneyline odds, which is 11/1 in UK odds which are fractional, and 12.00 in European decimal odds to win the league, which is behind Inter, who are currently priced at 500 (5/1, or 6.00), AC Milan at 400 (4.1, or 5.00), and odds-on favourites Napoli, who are currently priced at 110 (11/10, or 2.10).

In other words, placing a wager on Roma to win the league right now is not such a great bet unless you’re a die-hard Roma fan or just extremely optimistic, especially when you consider how well Napoli are doing right now in both the domestic league and in the Champions League.

Roma’s results in Serie A, the Europa League and upcoming fixtures

Roma secured progression to the Europa League knockout playoff on the final group matchday after defeating Ludogorets 3-1.

In February, they’ll face RB Salzburg in the two-legged playoff with progression to the final sixteen on the line.

As for the league, the Giallorossi limped into the World Cup break in poor form, winning only one of their last five games in Serie A. They dropped crucial home fixtures to fellow top-four contenders Napoli and Lazio before dropping points to Sassuolo and Torino.

They’ll resume play after the New Year on January 4th when they host Bologna before facing off against Milan at the San Siro four days later in a mouthwatering affair.
