Shooshburger? Clement announces Todd Cantwell given Rangers second chance

Rangers manager Philippe Clement has surprised everyone after doing a 180 on Todd Cantwell and loosely offering the wantaway playmaker a route back into Ibrox.

Cantwell 100% wants out of Rangers, but the manager, having dismissed the playmaker to the B Team is now playing softly-softly and trying to appease to the ex-Norwich man, in the latest bout of his ‘slightly unpredictable’ comments in the press:

“I kept the door all the time open (for Cantwell) all these weeks. It is already a while ago that he came the first time with that (transfer request). As long as a player is here and we believe in his qualities the door is always open. But, of course, we need to focus now on the guys who are totally with their minds in the club to get results in the next couple of weeks. We will see what happens.”

It’s a confusing comment, and seems to demonstrate the man isn’t quite the composed soul he was up till March.

Once a player tells you he’s leaving, that should surely be it, and his being cast to the B Team told you everything Clement thought about him and it.

Now Clement is reversing the notion – while still trying to be consistent about players who are focused on the club, the fact he’s opened the door for Cantwell after the midfielder twice told him he wanted to leave is confusing, bizarre, and frankly unacceptable?

This is most definitely unprecedented – a Rangers player handing in two transfer requests, the manager airing the dirty linen in public while said manager casts the player away, then partially changing their mind and suggesting the lad could stay.

It’s bonkers – it’s Michael Beale level of bonkers, albeit very different.

Beale was just BS talker, a liar – he didn’t say things that were absurd, he outright lied instead. Clement, on the other hand, seems to be ‘eccentric’ with the babbling he’s doing in the press, and from the straight shooting he was so lauded for in the first 5 months, he couldn’t have gone more the other way since around March.

Could you imagine Walter saying things like these?
