Sheriff Tiraspol Coach Yuriy Vernydub: “We Are Not Getting Excited & Expect Two Tough Matches Against Inter”

Sheriff Tiraspol head coach Yuriy Vernydub does not want his team to get carried away in their enthusiasm when they visit the San Siro tomorrow.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the Ukrainian tactician expressed his respect for tomorrow’s opposition who he believes will give two difficult matches to his team.

Sheriff are the surprise group leaders after two matchdays in the Champions League, carrying over their good form from qualifying for the group stage with two wins against Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid.

The results came as a shock to many given that the Moldovan side are in the group stage for the first time ever and share a group with more established teams, but Vernydub wants his players to keep their feet on the ground.

Sheriff play Inter home and away in matches that could play a massive role in determining the outcome of the group, and Vernydub believes that his team encounter a significant challenge in the Nerazzurri.

“The enthusiasm for after Madrid can play tricks,” he reflected. “I fear too much media attention. Better to remain in the shadows. In Milan and in the return leg it will be tough, Inter play differently from Real and Shakhtar. They have a new formation for us. Three at the back and five in midfield.”

He went on, “I hope my boys are aware of the new difficulties and stay focused. The Milanese attack is phenomenal, between Dzeko, Lautaro and Correa it will be very hard for us, they can hurt us.”

“And I certainly do not underestimate the other positions,” he explained, “includingexperienced and talented midfielders like Calhanoglu and Barella. And I like Skriniar in defense because he always wins aerial duels. Inter are also very dangerous on set pieces.”

“We will try to play our football, but I know well that Inter have a different level of players than ours,” Vernydub stated. “Of course, we will not give up playing, setting up, attacking when possible. I’m sure they will press high, they won’t allow us to breathe, we will have to be good on the counterattack.”

“I then know that what we see in the table is one thing, what will happen, we will see another,” he concluded. “And I am aware that possession will be dominated by Inter, we will have to wait. Because every team has its own Achilles’ heel, we will have to discover that of Inter. Where to hit and hurt them.”
