That is according to a report from Sheffield Wednesday News, who claim that the attacker is set for a medical with the South Yorkshire outfit ahead of a move.

The Owls will be targeting a higher finish in the second-tier standings next term after executing a great escape to stave off relegation back to League One, which was masterminded by impressive boss Danny Rohl.

A 20th-placed finish meant that they didn't join Birmingham City and Yorkshire rivals in both Huddersfield Town and Rotherham United in relegation, despite their fortunes already feeling like a foregone conclusion when the former Bayern Munich assistant coach arrived at Hillsborough in October.

They've been eager to get the ball rolling this summer, though, having already brought in four players to date.

Veteran shot-stopper Ben Hamer will provide ample experience and know-how to the dressing room, while Max Lowe certainly represents an intriguing cross-city capture from fierce rivals Sheffield United/

Rohl previously worked with Yan Valery at Southampton, who has signed after winning promotion to Ligue 1 with Angers, whilst Svante Ingelsson adds to the midfield depth from Hansa Rostock.

Now, they're set to add a fifth fresh face in the form of Jamaica international Lowe.

A separate post from Darren Witcoop on X suggests that Wednesday have beaten off Derby County, QPR and Swansea City - where Lowe spent last term on loan - in the race for the 29-year-old's signature.

It's believed that Swansea, who also previously sold Lowe to Bournemouth earlier in his career following a 14-goal haul in 2020/21, were priced out of a deal, although the move will be a free transfer as the seven-cap Jamaican international was released by the Cherries at the end of last season.

Jamal Lowe is a good signing for Sheffield Wednesday

Lowe possesses a plethora of Championship experience through spells with Wigan Athletic, Swansea, Bournemouth and QPR and has generally proved a fairly reliable source of goals, particularly in south Wales.

That will be vital for Wednesday no doubt, who are looking to replace Ike Ugbo after the 25-year-old returned seven goals from 18 appearances during a productive loan spell from Troyes in the second half of the season to inspire their survival.

Lowe is also positionally flexible, capable of leading the line as well as operating in wide positions, versatility which invariably comes up trumps across the unforgiving slog of a 46-game Championship campaign where fatigue, injury and inconsistency all creep in.

Admittedly, he's yet to rediscover the same spark that saw him gain such strong acclaim with firstly Portsmouth and then in his first spell at the Swansea.com Stadium.

But nonetheless, Lowe likely brings you anywhere from seven to, if you're fortunate, around 12 goals throughout a full season, which will be much-welcomed considering that Wednesday aren't paying a fee for his services.
