Sheffield Wednesday are considering a January loan move for Everton striker Tom Cannon, as detailed in a Patreon report from journalist Alan Nixon.

The report states that Fleetwood Town are providing the Owls with divisional competition, as it remains to be seen what the next step will be for the 19-year-old.

Cannon has netted 10 times in 14 appearances for Everton at Premier League 2 level and in the EFL Trophy, adding a further two assists to his goal contributions tally.

The teenager also made his debut at first-team level during the game before the international break, with Cannon coming on with 15 minutes left to play in a 3-0 defeat at Bournemouth.

Yes No

Millwall and Derby County were both considering moves for the young striker in the summer, however, a loan move away was never sanctioned.

The verdict

It will be interesting to see if the Toffees do allow Cannon to depart during this transfer window, as it will be likely that a lot of clubs will be interested in sealing his signature.

Possessing an excellent record with the club’s U21s, there is certainly scope for the young forward to thrive at League One level, although it is fair to say that a move to Sheffield Wednesday does come with its risks.

Competition levels are already really high at Hillsborough, and whilst Cannon offers something completely different from their current options, game time will not be guaranteed.

A player with a really exciting future ahead of him, Everton will be assessing what destination would be best for his immediate development.
