Carlton Palmer has insised that Sheffield Wednesday can reach the Premeir League in two seasons, only if they keep manager, Danny Rohl.

Rohl has made it clear in recent weeks his feeling surrounding the club, none more so than the current contract situation at Hillsborough, admitting that having 19 players out of contract in the summer has proved a difficult problem to manage.

The German also revealed that some training sessions had to be cancelled during the winter due to the lack of undersoil heating, and that lack of trust in Dejphon Chansiri could ultimately see one of the brightest manager's in the Football League leave South Yorkshire in the summer.

It was reported by i News that Sunderland had listed the 35-year-old as a target for Michael Beale's permanent successor following the conclusion of the current campaign.

It is imperative the the Owls chairman creates the conditions and the trust for Rohl to continue to produce the excellent work has achieved during his tenure at the club, with the potential of taking the club back to the Premier League, according to former England midfielder, Carlton Palmer.

Having played for Sheffield Wednesday between 1989 and 1994, Carlton Palmer understands what it takes to play for the Owls.

During his time at Hillsborough, he won the 1981 League Cup final against Manchester United, and he believes similar days can return to South Yorkshire, but only if Dejphon Chansiri shows he will give Danny Rohl what he wants to succeed.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer commended the job done by Rohl this term, and insisted that the 35-year-old could take the club to the Premier League within two seasons.

"Sheffield Wednesday are on the verge of securing Championship survival," Palmer started.

"A point at Sunderland at the end of the season will undoubtly ensure they stay in the Championship.

"I am expecting even if they get beat, the swing that would have to happen at the bottom for Sheffield Wednesday to get relegated, is immense.

"I think Sheffield Wednesday are almost certain to be in the Championship next season and you can't argue the job that Danny Rohl has done at the club has been fantastic, so, what (Dejphon) Chansiri has got to do, I mean Danny Rohl has already come out and you can see he is determined and he knows what he needs.

"When you look at the way Sheffield Wednesday have performed, you look at their last six games and the teams that they have played, they've only lost once against good opposition.

"If you take that into next season, they can propel themselves next season into challenging for the play-offs. Danny Rohl will want things but in place.

"He's come out and said it's not going to take a lot, but things are going to have to change in the dressing room, the training ground and those little things he wants implementing to put things right.

"Chanisiri can't afford to get this wrong, because Danny Rohl is going to be coveted once this season finishes at there will be teams who want Danny Rohl.

"But Sheffield Wednesday is a massive club, hugely supported so Chansiri needs to sti down with him, and I know Danny Rohl may have to have a concession with some things, but as long as the chairman meets him halfway and backs him, I think Sheffield Wednesday have a manager that can take them back to the Premier League in two seasons.

"If he's backed by Chansiri and lets him do the job and recruits the players, I can see Sheffield Wednesday getting promoted in the next two seasons."
