It has been a remarkable run for Doncaster Rovers to the League Two play-offs in the past few months.

Back at the start of February, Grant McCann's side were locked in a battle to avoid relegation out of the Football League.

Since then though, Donny have been on a remarkable run of results, including ten straight wins, that has propelled them up the table.

As a result, they are now preparing for a League Two play-off semi-final against Crewe Alexandra.

One man who has certainly looks to have played a part in that turnaround is Matthew Craig. The midfielder joined Doncaster on loan from Tottenham until the end of the season, back in the January transfer window.

Since then, the 21-year-old has become a regular for McCann's side, and the turnaround they have seen since his arrival does seem to highlight the quality and potential he possesses.

Indeed, with attention starting to turn towards the summer transfer window, it seems that has not gone unnoticed elsewhere in the Football League.

Championship duo linked with Tottenham midfielder

While he may currently be playing in League Two, it seems as though Craig is already starting to attract interest from clubs some way further up the pyramid.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Championship duo Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday are now taking an interest in the midfielder, before the market opens at the end of the season.

Given their position in the second-tier, both would be able to offer the midfielder a big opportunity to further develop his game.

That could mean there is something of a battle for his services come the summer. Both could be appealing destinations for Craig and his parent club, while he could be an asset on loan for one of those two sides next season, which could offer motivation to strongly pursue this deal.

However, there is an argument that circumstances may ensure it is Millwall rather than Sheffield Wednesday, who are in pole position to complete this signing as things stand.

Millwall have transfer advantage over Sheffield Wednesday

Right now, Millwall are certainly no strangers to doing business with Tottenham in the transfer market.

Back in the January transfer window, the Lions completed the signing of centre back Japhet Tanganga from Spurs on a temporary deal until the end of the season.

That has certainly been a move that has proved to be productive for all concerned with it. Since making his move, Tanganga has made 17 appearances for the club, starting 16 of those.

In that time, the defender has scored two goals, and helped steer Millwall safely clear of the Championship relegation zone, with one game of the season still to be played.

As a result, there can be no denying this has proved to be a fruitful move for the Championship club.

Given both Tottenham and Tanganga himself will have wanted him to be playing regularly after an underwhelming spell in Germany with Augsburg in the first half of this in which he did not play a single game, they too will consider this a successful loan.

With that in mind, the fact Spurs now know that their young prospects can develop at The Den, they will no doubt be confident about sending Craig there in the summer to make his own progress, if Millwall do indeed make a move for him.

Meanwhile, Tanganga now knows first hand about the experience of playing for the club. Having got the game he wanted at Millwall, and winning plenty of appreciation from the club's fans in the process, he too may well be willing to offer Craig a positive recommendation about the possibility of a loan spell there.

That in turn, may ensure that the midfielder, along with Spurs themselves, would be open to favouring a loan move to The Den for next season if given the chance.

So with that in mind, the success of Tanganga's loan spell at the club, is something that could now further aid Millwall in the summer as well, even after the deal itself has expired.
