Highly-rated teenage striker Benjamin Šeško scored the winner as Liverpool fell to a pre-season defeat in Salzburg.
Scorers: Šeško 30′.
Darwin Núñez scored four goals during the last pre-season match with RB Leipzig and came close to finding the net again midway through the first half.
Isaac Mabaya played the ball into the Uruguayan’s path inside the area before he saw his first-time show deflect over via the crossbar.
The hosts should’ve moved ahead immediately after that when Benjamin Šeško took advantage of a Joe Gomez mistake to move through on goal, his shot was well saved by the feet of Adrian but the rebound fell to Fernando who somehow spurned the ball wide with the goal gaping.
Šeško did break the deadlock minutes later, playing a neat one-two with Andreas Ulmer before slotting the ball into the bottom corner past Adrian from 10 yards out.
Luis Díaz was one of many Liverpool changes in the second half and came close with an effort with flew wide of the far post after being played in by Jordan Henderson.
But the Austrian Bundesliga champions held out meaning Jürgen Klopp’s side fall to a second defeat of pre-season heading into Saturday’s Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
