FC Red Bull Salzburg Women 1-1 SCR Altach (H/T:0-0). Goals: Crnoja (63' pen) - Meister (90+4')
The first ever ADMIRAL Frauen Bundesliga match at the Red Bull Football Academy went according to plan for a long time against SCR Altach. However, the visitors tore up the script on a last-minute counter-attack, with the points ultimately being shared in a 1-1 draw.
"Never change a winning team!" – coach Dusan Pavlovic honoured this maxim by entrusting the victorious starting XI from our opener in Linz and was rewarded with a good start to the game for his team. The two teams were an evenly match over the first 45 minutes, however. While Aldina Hamzic missed a header, Pulins was a threat at the other end. The Altach player did not trouble goalkeeper Michaela Fischer in either of her two attempts, however.
The best opportunity fell to Pavlovic's team: Vina Crnoja moved forward and entered the danger zone – before her shot whizzed past the crossbar. The teams therefore went into the break with the score still goalless.
It was a break from which our team came back much the stronger side. Although the crossbar prevented the visitors from taking the lead – as the unmarked Albrecht rose highest after a corner – the hosts then put in a convincing performance in front of a good crowd of 345 spectators at the Red Bull Football Academy. Emelie Kobler had initially missed the goal from a tight angle, but a handball by Bertsch gave us a golden opportunity – and Crnoja slotted the penalty into the left corner (63').
Midfield dynamo Sara Grabovac & Co then pushed for a decisive second goal. A solo effort by our number 14 went unrewarded, and a Crnoja free kick landed just inches wide of the target.
And then the inevitable happened. Mikulica supplied Altach substitute Meister, who secured a last-minute point for the visitors with a low shot into the corner (90+4') – a bitter end to the game.
I think the team performed really well. We wanted to play our own game, to bring intensity, passion, energy and courage to the pitch – and the team did that really well from the first to the last second. The fact that conceding a goal in the last minute is part of football is something that our young team has to experience and learn from. I'm very happy with the performance and proud of the girls. And I'm sure that if we keep playing like we did in the last two games week after week, we'll make really good progress!
