Inter Milan and Italy legend Marco Materazzi has indicated one manager whom he believes could become the successor to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Catalan coach remains in somewhat of a limbo with regards to his future at the Etihad Stadium, as the 53-year-old continues to weigh up whether to extend his agreement with the club beyond the end of this season.

Guardiola has currently been in place as Manchester City’s head coach for the last nine seasons, and while his success at the Etihad Stadium has been unprecedented, there remains concerns as to whether this will be his final season.

As such, with Guardiola’s contract expiring at the end of the ongoing season, several media reports have already started pointing towards possible successors to the former FC Barcelona and Bayern Munich tactician.

And weighing in on that debate is one of Italy’s greatest-ever footballers, who has pointed towards one of the Italian top-flight’s best minds and a coach that Manchester City know all too well as a possible future boss at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking this week with The Italian Football Podcast and SempreInter.com, Marco Materazzi tipped Inter’s hugely successful and current head coach Simone Inzaghi to become a future Manchester City manager.

“I am an Inter fan. So I hope he stays at Inter because his job there hasn’t been finished yet. I think he is a good profile for the Premier League,” Materazzi admitted.

“Maybe Arteta, who is one of the best coaches in the Premier League, but for me Arsenal is one of the clubs in my opinion for Simone. Maybe Manchester United. And Manchester City too, because nobody knows what Pep will do,” he continued.

“But I hope Simone stays in Italy. I’m not his manager. I’m his friend because we played each other and we have a good relationship. I can’t decide on his fate.”

For now, Manchester City will continue to eye an extension to their agreement with Pep Guardiola, and some expect a final decision to be made in the coming days and weeks as the 53-year-old takes on a break from club duties at present.

One major change that has already been confirmed to take place at Manchester City at the end of the ongoing season is that of the club’s Director of Football, with Sporting’s Hugo Viana replacing Txiki Begiristain after his 12th season at the club.
