While trying to pick up the pieces of Paulistão’s elimination in the quarter-finals to Série D side Mirassol, São Paulo will now aim to rebalance itself financially for the rest of the season.
That means that the Tricolor Paulista may need to get rid of some players to help get their wages to a feasible number.
According to Fox Sports Brasil journalist Eduardo Savoia, São Paulo’s board will offer Dani Alves to Flamengo, though neither of the clubs have commented about the possible move.
New Flamengo boss Doménec Torrent worked with the player at Barcelona as Pep Guardiola’s assistant and the two are said to have a fantastic relationship.
The 37-year-old is believed to be extremely disappointed with São Paulo’s results on the pitch since his arrival.
Alves, who has an incredible 40 trophies to his name, arrived last August and was unable to lift the club from fifth place (where they were at the time) as they finished in sixth.
Now having been on the wrong end of a historic Campeonato Paulista and with the club in need of wage cuts, his departure could be the best thing for everyone involved.
