MIAMI, Florida – Maria Paula Salas scored seven goals to help Costa Rica capture the top spot in Group C of League A of the Road to W Gold Cup with a 19-0 victory over Saint Kitts and Nevis on Monday night at the SKNFA Technical Centre in Basseterre.

With the result, Costa Rica win the group and advance to the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup group stage, while Haiti finish second and will progress to the Prelims.

The Ticas wasted no time and held a 3-0 lead after five minutes with a pair of Maria Paula Salas goals in the 2’ and 5’ sandwiching an Alexa Herrera score in the 3’.

Salas then notched her hat-trick in the 9’ and a minute later in the 10’ it was 5-0 to the Ticas with Salas bouncing a header into goal.

Gloriana Villalobos extended the lead to 6-0 in the 19’, followed by the fifth goal for Salas in the 23’ and then Fabiola Villalobos scoring in the 25’ on a powerful right-footed shot to make it 8-0.

There was another spurt of goals from Costa Rica shortly before halftime, beginning with Herrera in the 43’, Sheika Scott in the 44’, Raquel Rodriguez in the 45’+3 from the penalty spot and a sixth goal from Salas in the 45’+5 with a shot from close-range for a 12-0 halftime lead.

Costa Rica kept their foot on the gas and it was 13-0 in the 49’ with Salas getting her seventh of the night via a header.

Melissa Herrera added her name to the score sheet in the 59’ on a header off a corner kick before Alexandra Pinell squeezed in a shot in the 64’ to make it 15-0.

A right-footed volley off a corner kick from Mariela Campos in the 68’ stretched the lead to 16-0. The night was then capped by Tanisha Fonseca nodding home a header in the 89’, Emilie Valenciano slotting one home in the 90’+2 and Fonseca tacking on another in the 90’+3 to complete the 19-0 scoreline.
