MIAMI – Clubs across Concacaf are gaining momentum with every passing week as the top divisions in the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica play out their regular season.

Thorns continue early season resurgence in USA

After having a rough start to the NWSL regular season, the Portland Thorns continued its ascent in the standings with a fourth consecutive win, obtaining a 2-1 victory over the Washington Spirit on Saturday.

Sam Coffey scored in the 4’, striking the ball from inside the edge of the box past Washington goalkeeper Shelby Hogan to place Portland in front. Canadian icon Christine Sinclair showed up on the scoresheet in the 22’, sending the ball to the back of the net after a free kick service from Coffey, by way of an Isabella Obaze header.

Washington pulled one back in the 88’ as Trinity Rodman dribbled though the right side of the box to cross to Lena Sileno, who connected with a header to cut the deficit.

Playoff picture set in Mexico

The eight teams that will play the Liguilla of the Liga MX Femenil are set. Emotions ran high until the last minute of the regular season to determine the contenders for the Clausura 2024 trophy.

After a five-year absence, Club Leon return to the postseason after drawing 1-1 to Tijuana on Friday, finishing seventh place in the table. Daniela Espinoza opened the scoring for the home team Tijuana with a goal inside the box in the 44’.

Leon equalized in the 88’ from the boots of Fernanda Pinilla, who delivered a free kick to the center of goal.

Tsunami Azul gets historic win in Costa Rica

The teams of the Apertura 2024 of the league in Costa Rica keep writing history, one goal at a time. Tsunami Azul acquired its first victory of the tournament following promotion to the first division, with a 3-1 win against Perez Zeledon on Sunday afternoon.

The first goal came in the 38’ from Pamela Corea placed Tsunami Azul in the lead. Darlin Arce pulled one back for Perez Zeledon in the 44’ to even the score.

Tsunami Azul retook the lead through Hannah Mikles in the 71’. Francis Jenkins closed the night with the fourth and last goal in the 86’.
