Saint-Étienne have been on the decline since former manager Christophe Galtier left the club. However, the historic French club seems to be regaining form and Les Verts have even recovered from a difficult start to life in Ligue 2. With that improvement, ASSE are now expected to remain in Ligue 2 next season.

With the club now in calmer waters, talk of selling the club has returned to the fore. Per reports from L’Équipe, shareholders are considering a potential sale before the summer. Bernard Caïazzo, co-president of the club since 2004, met with Joseph Oughourlian, the president of Lens, to discuss the sale. There are also reports of an “English-speaking” mystery buyer who has put an offer of €32m on the table, whilst Caïazzo attended Crystal Palace’s draw against Everton on Saturday.

There may be a French investor offering €3m more. However, no decision has been made yet. The club is expected to present their accounts to the DNCG (French football’s financial watchdog) in June. Saint-Étienne is one of Ligue 1’s most historic and successful clubs, with 10 French titles to their name, as well as six Coupe de Frances.
