This top-five clash in Serie A was predicted to be a tight contest, but Inter waltzed into Lazio's stadium and put on a show to win 6-0 on Monday.

Scorers: Çalhanoğlu 20' (P), Dimarco 45', Barella 51', Dumfries 53', Augusto 77', Thuram 90'

It was a tense atmosphere inside the Stadio Olimpico as the teams toyed with the ball and hunted for the first goal. But ultimately, a little luck kickstarted the goal-fest.

A long VAR check determined Nicolò Rovella committed a handball and Hakan Çalhanoğlu was tasked with scoring from the penalty spot. He blasted home for 1-0.

Inter then doubled the lead after a sublime effort from Federico Dimarco. Denzel Dumfries sent in a perfect cross from the right, which beat a leaping Lazio player, and the Italian volleyed home at the back post.

Lazio would have thought they were still in the game after the break, but it was virtually put to bed about five minutes into the second half.

Things turned 3-0 when Nicolo Barella took the ball in stride at the top of the box and struck into the top left corner as it swerved and dipped beyond goalkeeper Ivan Provedel.

Dumfries then ensured it was misery for the hosts as he rose highest and beat Nuno Tavares in the air in the blink of an eye.

The fifth arrived with a touch of class. Substitute Carlos Augusto came off the bench and cut the ball back to himself before rolling home into the bottom right corner for his first Serie A goal for Inter.

Marcus Thuram later made it six after taking his time in the box and blasting home at the near post to make it Inter's biggest win since May 2023.

The result means Inter are three points off leaders Atalanta and have a game in hand. Lazio, meanwhile, are fifth and six points back.
