Barcelona star Ronald Araújo has on Wednesday broken his silence, on the back of the club’s exit from the Champions League.

Barca, of course, were sent packing from European competition late last night.

As much came by way of a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of French champions Paris Saint-Germain in Catalunya’s capital.

And unfortunately for the aforementioned Araújo, his actions proved absolutely central as to why.

With Barcelona a goal to the good on the night, and leading 4-2 on aggregate, the Uruguayan was shown a straight red card, for a last-man challenge on PSG’s Bradley Barcola.

From here, the visitors took complete control of proceedings, on their way to booking a spot in the Champions League’s semi-finals, at the expense of the Blaugrana.

Araújo, for his part, was left looking absolutely devastated on the sidelines in the aftermath of his dismissal, no doubt fully aware of just how costly his mistake was set to prove.

And now, on Wednesday, the 25-year-old has publicly responded to the incident for the first time.

Taking to his official Instagram account, Araújo issued a heartfelt apology to all associated with Barcelona, for failing to provide them with ‘the joy’ he feels was deserved:

“Football that gave me so much joy, is now hitting me hard. I thank all those who are unconditionally by my side, my teammates who left everything on the field, and the fans who believed in this team until the end. I’m so sorry for not giving you this joy. WE’LL TRY THIS AGAIN! Força Barça, now and forever!”
