On Tuesday evening, Real Madrid are set to travel to the Allianz Arena as they take on Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie. Having already eliminated RB Leipzig and Manchester City from this season’s Champions League, Los Blancos present themselves as a difficult obstacle to overcome for Der Rekordmiester.

For Bayern, elimination from European competition was almost a reality at the hands of Lazio in the round of 16, while the challenge of Arsenal pushed them to their limits. Therefore, the soon-to-be Spanish champions may prove to be too much for Thomas Tuchel’s side, but as previously reported, optimism is high in the squad.

Regardless, former Bayer striker Robert Lewandowski has issued a warning to the record champions ahead of their meeting with Los Blancos. Speaking to Sport Bild, the Barcelona marksman commented on Real’s qualities:

“Real Madrid is never dead; they never give up. They act as a team all over the pitch, are a collective that always believes in the words of Carlo Ancelotti and success. You sometimes think that Real have a sore point; you think you’re close to winning, but in the end, it doesn’t work.”

However, the 35-year-old did not rule Bayern out of the tie, remarking that he hopes for Der Rekordmeister to prevail:

“Bayern still has a chance. They have to show that in the first leg in Munich. The second leg at the Bernabéu can be special. A lot of things from outside have an influence there. That’s what I’ve learned recently. My wish is that Bayern beat Real Madrid.”

While it will be a difficult task for Bayern, a potential meeting with Borussia Dortmund in the final could be enough motivation to push them over the line. Indeed, if they are to make it to Wembley Stadium with BvB, then the Bundesliga will reign supreme over Europe.
